How to Make Mongolian Ground Beef Rice Bowls

These Mongolian ground beef rice bowls are quick, flavorful, and perfect for meal prep. With bold umami flavors from soy sauce, garlic, and chili, each bite packs a sweet-savory kick that reheats beautifully.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg (1500 g) ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1–2 chilies, sliced
  • 1/2 cup tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup dark soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup tbsp sugar or zero-calorie sweetener
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp MSG (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Brown the beef: Heat a pan over medium-high heat and cook the ground beef for 4–5 minutes, breaking it apart as it browns. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Add aromatics: Stir in onion, garlic, and chilies. Sauté until fragrant and the onions turn translucent.
  3. Add sauce: Pour in your Mongolian sauce mixture and let it simmer for 2–3 minutes, stirring until the beef absorbs the sauce and becomes glossy.
  4. Serve: Spoon the Mongolian beef over cooked rice and garnish with green onions or sesame seeds for a complete meal prep bowl.

Meal Prep Tip: Store in airtight containers with rice and veggies for up to 4 days. The flavors get even better overnight, making this an ideal weekly lunch option.
