Shrimp Rolls

These shrimp rolls are the perfect alternative to the expensive lobster roll. Honestly they are just as good, if not better than lobster rolls because you can load them up with shrimp. This is a really simple recipe that will take less than 20 minutes and you can easily triple the portions.

What type of bread to use for shrimp rolls?

It is very common for lobster rolls or shrimp rolls to use a top split hot dog bun. Since I do not have this, I used a loaf of Japanese milk bread which I found to be even more delicious. You can commonly find a loaf of Japanese milk bread at Asian grocery stores, but if you want to go above and beyond, you can make your own. I actually have a recipe already uploaded on my website which you can follow by clicking here.

When preparing the bread you will want to first cut out a 2 inch thick slice. Afterwards, you will cut that in half so that you are left with two rectangular prisms. Lastly, split the top side in half so that it looks like a hot dog bun. I like to finish with garlic butter then placing in the air fryer to crisp up.

What size of shrimp and how to cook it

For these rolls, I prefer using shrimp that are on the smaller side. I believe these are U16-20 which means there are 16-20 shrimp per pound. I remove the the shells from the shrimp first then place them in boiling hot water for about 2 minutes. Remove from the water and set on some paper towel to dry before mixing with the remaining ingredients.
