Mayak Eggs (Korean Marinated Eggs)

Mayak eggs, or Korean "drug eggs," are soft-boiled eggs marinated in a sweet, savory soy sauce mixture. The eggs absorb rich flavors from garlic, sugar, and sesame oil, making them an irresistible snack or meal topping.

Ingredients

  • 5 eggs
  • 1 bunch green onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 red chili
  • 1 large shallot
  • cup soy sauce
  • cup water
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

Instructions

  • Boil eggs for 6½ minutes.

  • Rinse eggs with cold water and peel. Set aside.
  • Finely nice green onions, garlic, chilies, and shallots. Add them into a jar.

  • Into the same jar add soy sauce, water, honey, sesame seeds, and sesame oil. Mix well. The amounts depend on the size of your jar. Just make sure to keep about a 1:1 ratio of soy sauce to water.
    ⅔ cup soy sauce, ⅔ cup water, 3 tbsp honey, 2 tbsp sesame seeds, 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • Add our peeled eggs into the container and let it marinate in the fridge overnight.
